This backyard renovation in Newmarket involved replacing an old pressure-treated deck with a low-maintenance, durable Fiberon Chai composite deck while maintaining the existing footprint.

Key Features & Design Elements

  • Full Demolition & Reframing
    The original structure was fully removed and replaced with a new pressure-treated frame. Joist tape was applied to extend the lifespan of the framing.
  • 12-Inch Joist Spacing for Diagonal Layout
    To accommodate the diagonal decking pattern, the new joists were spaced 12” on center for added support and longevity.
  • Composite Decking: Fiberon Chai
    Selected for its warm, natural tones and low-maintenance properties, Fiberon Chai provided a clean and modern finish.
  • Built-In Benches & Side Table
    Two custom benches and a side table, crafted from PVC material, were integrated into the deck for built-in seating and functionality.
  • Matching Patio Landing & Side Staircase
    A matching landing and stairs were added at the side of the house, featuring the same decking for a cohesive look. A railing was installed at the side door due to elevation.

  • Framing: Pressure-treated lumber with joist tape

  • Benches & Table: PVC material

  • Railing: Aluminum railing (side entry)

Project Outcome

This project delivered a clean, modern, and highly functional outdoor space that honored the original deck layout while enhancing safety and usability. With new framing, integrated seating, and a matching side entrance, the deck is ready for long-term, maintenance-free enjoyment.
